Between January and September 2023, some 67 people were killed by police in the course of managing public demonstrations 51 of them in just five days in July. The 67 deaths are the most extreme
outcome of 296 torture and torture-related violations documented in the context of 22 demonstrations monitored and documented by
the Independent Medico-Legal Unit over the study period.
