Technical Lead Psychological Rehabilitation

As the Technical Lead-Psychological Rehabilitation at the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU), William Omondi provides strategic leadership in the design and delivery of psychosocial rehabilitation programmes for survivors of torture and other human rights violations. The role focuses on promoting healing, resilience, and recovery while contributing to evidence-based interventions that advance accountability and justice.

A seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience, William has worked extensively in child protection, youth development, gender issues, psychosocial support, and human rights programming. Known for being self-driven and adaptable, he has extensive experience working in multicultural environments and possesses strong skills in research, professional counselling, report writing, stakeholder engagement, and diplomacy.

Between January and September 2023, William supported the documentation of police conduct during public order management in Kenya, contributing to the development of IMLU’s landmark report, Death, Blood and Tears, which documented human rights violations arising from policing of public assemblies.

His professional interests include psychology, diplomacy, research, mental health, and human rights advocacy, with a particular focus on the rehabilitation and empowerment of survivors.

William holds a Master of Arts in Diplomacy from the University of Nairobi, where the research project examined Peace and Human Development as Diplomacy Niches: A Case Study of the Holy See’s Diplomacy in Kenya. He also holds a Bachelor of Psychology from Egerton University, with research focused on The Psychological Impact of the Kenyan Criminal Justice Procedure on Inmates at the Nairobi Remand and Allocation Prison.
