The Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU), together with fellow members of the Coalition Against Sexual Violence (CASV), welcomes the Kericho High Court’s ruling against John Chebochok.
The Court’s decision, which found that John Chebochok grossly violated the Constitution, is a significant affirmation of the principles of accountability, integrity, and respect for human rights in public leadership. The judgment reinforces the constitutional expectation that those entrusted with public office must uphold the highest standards of conduct and remain accountable for their actions.
As a member of CASV, IMLU believes this ruling sends a strong message that sexual and gender-based violence, abuse of power, and violations of constitutional values have no place in leadership. It also demonstrates the critical role of the judiciary in safeguarding constitutional rights and advancing justice for survivors.
IMLU remains committed to working with partners to promote accountability, protect the rights and dignity of survivors, and strengthen systems that prevent sexual violence and impunity.
Leadership is a public trust. It must be anchored in integrity, accountability, and unwavering respect for the Constitution.
